Surface Disinfection
Current Cascade Recommendations
Main Surfaces
- Bagging surfaces is best (levers, chairs, handles, knows), if you can't then:
- Spray all crevices with Lysol Spray III, starts the 10 minutes
- 4x4 wipes with Lysol Quat for quick debridement, minimizes aerosols, able to soak better, 2 pronged approach
- Lightly spray with Lysol again and let air dry
Sensitive Surfaces (Cerec, Nomad, Sensors)
- Over the counter Lysol or Clorox Wipes.
- Less liquid,
- Quat based so less damaging
- FYI Clorox wipes have no bleach in them)
Chairs & Leather surfaces
- Only as needed, wet paper towel or mild soap solution
Research
2015 July
- Lysol Spray III Ethyl Alcohol >58% is best with blood after 7-10 min. Only product to kill with blood by 10 minutes.
- Quaternary Ammonium Compound works great in 3 minutes with no blood; softer on plastics.
2017 May
- Popular wipes like Caviwipe spread rather than kill germs.
- These wipes hold 3 grams of liquid compared to 4x4 holding 10 grams; 3 grams evaporates before kill achieved. No amount would kill with blood
- Most mix Isopropyl and Quat in an attempt to achieve better kill rates but they evaporate too fast.
2017 Oct
- BioSURF faster that Lysol but not practical until sold in aerosol version
2008 CDC
- Great definitions of how all Disinfectants work and guildines for each use
- Quaternary Ammonium Compunds can be inhibied by: 1- Woven Cotton absorbs active ingreadant (non woven is not affected), 2- Water hardness in first 3 generations (4th generation are fine), 3-In open bucket/storage oxygen reacts with solution degrading effectivness (closed storage and only mixing 1-2 days at a time mitigates this).
