Risks of Each Alternative

The surgical risks of placement of an implant include:

• The potential of short-term bruising of the external facial tissues.
• Paresthesia for an indefinite amount of time or even permanently.
• Infection in the implant site.
• Failure for the implant to osseointegrate.
• Etc.

 

These risks should be tactfully explained to the patient. The risks of all of the other alternatives also need to be explained.
