Medical Response Plan
Steps
1. P-A-B-C-D. (Positioning, Airway, Breathing, Circulation, Definitive Treatment). If the patient is conscious perform P-D. If patient is not conscious, perform P-A-B-C-D according to current BLS (basic life support) guidelines. "Get blood and oxygen to the body STAT."
2. Call EMS (emergency medical services, 911)
3. Get emergency kit
Preparation
Basic Life Support Training: Required of all team members every 2 years. Click here(CPR, AED, & First Aid)Regularly review Medical Response Plan: At least once a year in Team Meetings.
Review specific emergencies that could present in our office: At least once a year. Video Library
Review Drugs & Equipment: Quarterly checked with the Monthly Assistant checklist.
Emergency Medical Team
Member #1: First on scene. Stay with victim, yell for help, and start BLSMember #2: Brings the stuff. (Emergency Kit, Oxygen, and AED)
Member #3: All other team members: Call 911, wait at the door for EMS, assist, and record notes.
Doctor: Leader once he or she arrives
