Laser Setup Protocol
Cleaving and stripping the tip
- If the tip needs to be stripped, find the light blue cleaving instrument.
- Place tip of laser fiber in the end of the “fiber stripper” and push through to desired length of cleaved tip.
- Squeeze the handles together, (this cuts the plastic outer coating), wrap the fiber around your finger for a better grip, and pull the fiber out of the fiber stripper while squeezing… thus stripping the coating from the tip.
- Cleave the tip if needed. The tip should be flat and cleanly trimmed. If it is jagged or used it should be cleaved.
-
By using the crystal in one of the boxes or the small white square tile “thingy”, score the fiber on one side against a hard surface. This should not “cut” the fiber, it will only “score” or “scratch” it. At this point you can now with your finger and nail break the tip off at the point of “scoring.” This will create a clean break and newly cleaved tip to use.
Tip initiation
- Make sure fiber is in the blue hand piece and securely fastened from the base of it.
- Take the laser off of standby mode. This will allow you use the laser by using the foot pedal.
- With either a cork or articulating paper (both should be with each laser) press the pedal and place the laser tip in the paper or the cork. (it burns it, but that is the point) the tip of the laser becomes blackened.
- You have now officially initiated the tip of the laser.
